Hi ! I'm happy to share my remake of my old trench project that I started at the beginning of the year, it's also my first real and finished unreal project !
My old one and the beginning of this remake were inspired by the trench scenes in "The King's Man" from 2021, but I cannot deny that since the release of gameplay footage of "Trench Tales", my scene was heavily inspired by the game.
I wanted to create a game ready environment in a medium scale, to show the progress that I made in less than year and show what I'm capable of on my portfolio.
The scene was made using very few unique props, and tilable textures to work with a modular workflow. For some of the props like the weapons I used Substance painter to texture them.
Everything is made by me except the FX that are from the Unreal marketplace and the decals that I directly took from the Megascan library. I used Megascans materials that I modified in Mixer.
I started by searching a lot of reference pictures for the trenches of the british and french army in WWI, and pointed out the most commonly used materials and objects that kept the soldiers safe. I produced all the props and searched photorealistic textures for them, and other textures that I could mix them with to put more details on the props that weren't textured on painter. Finally, I focused on the level art using the library that I created and the mood of the scene doing my first real lighting work.
Very happy with the results, I learned a lot in the 6 months that separated the old version from this one, there is room for improvement and I hope the next project/game that I work on will show as much progress than this one.
